Galatians Sermon Series

Religion saves. True, or false? The reality is that most people believe this is true, even though they might not admit it. Religion - with all its rules, guidelines, and liturgy - can become our functional Savior. We all know this is not good news. But there is good news.

Paul ran into the same problem that plagues the church in 2009, but all the way back in about 48 A.D. There were some teachers trying to sell the idea that religion saves. Jesus alone is not enough. They were troubling a group of believers in churches throughout an ancient region called Galatia.

So Paul grabbed a parchment and wrote with great vigor about the message of the Gospel - the good news of the grace of God to us in Jesus Christ. We need this message today. Religion does not save, Jesus does. And in him we are then free to obey in love.

John Bunyan captured this truth with a rhyme:

“Run John Run the law demands,
but gives us neither feet nor hands;
far better news the Gospel brings,
it bids us fly, and gives us wings.”

Join us on Sundays as we work verse-by-verse through Paul’s letter to the Galatians, and experience the abundant joy of glorifying God by living in his grace.

The Sane Man's Response To Freedom

Paul teaches the simple truth that there is only one sane response to freedom: accept it, and don't try to work for it.

Weekly Memory Passage: Matthew 20:26b-28 (ESV)

But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
