Opportunities for Service

Part of the outcome of our mission statement at Calvary Community Church is to create a family of Gospel-Centered people. One of the things that displays you are someone centered on the Gospel is service, for it is a mark of looking more like the one who is the Gospel - Jesus Christ.

"For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45, ESV)

Serving shoulder to shoulder with others in the community of the church, for the good of those in the church and the world, is a beautiful display of the love of Christ in us. We want every member of this church to experience the joy that comes from humbly serving others. Please consider the list below as a starting point for where you may serve, and then contact the church office, or one of the leaders listed on our ministry staff page, to begin your adventure of service.

Consider:

Praying - just like the beginning of each day, the beginning of each project, the direction for ministry, protection of our leaders in the church and in our government, concerns for family, health, etc. it all begins with prayer.  We have two prayer chains (one for day and one for night calls), Wednesday prayer groups, prayer support groups for our missionaries, and Sunday morning prayer time.  You may consider joining one or more of these groups.

Cooking - help prepare meals for those who have been ill, just had a baby, or have other circumstances when receiving a meal is just the help that is needed.  Offer to help with special events such as the Sr. Luncheons, Women's events, or congregational meals.

Childcare - Sunday mornings require a lot of volunteers to help with the children during church time.  There are many opportunities during other events including during the M.O.M.S. group where your help is greatly needed and would be warmly appreciated.

Office Help - be available for such things as putting labels on letters for bulk mailings, answering phones on those occasions when the receptionist is not available, or helping with projects for the Children's or Youth Ministries.

Music - Do you love to sing or play an instrument? Would you enjoy being part of the Worship team?  Chris Stone, our Director for Worship and Music, would love to talk with you and find a place for you to share your talents.

Hospitality - you can find a spot as a greeter, Welcome Center assistant, sending greetings to shut-ins, making coffee, and many more areas that fit with a person who enjoys making people feel welcome.

Organization - if you enjoy bringing about order, you may consider helping in the kitchen by overseeing the supplies.

Library - if you enjoy books, consider volunteering in our church library. Our library is open a variety of times during the week and Sunday mornings.

Events Planning - if planning group activities is fun for you, you can help with men's or women's special events.  Women's Ministry put on different events during the year and would love to have you join their team.

Handyman - we have singles, widows, elderly, and families with a loved one in the military that would all benefit from someone who is willing to help out with small projects or simple mechanical jobs.

Technical skills- Sunday mornings and special events usually require sound systems and the use of computer presentations.  If you are skilled in these areas, or interested in learning how, you will find opportunities to use these skills.

A volunteer booklet will soon be available in PDF format that will include more specific details of where you can volunteer, and a name and number for the contact person.
